Doping carbon

Doping by atom substitution

Substituting carbon atoms by others (N, B, P and S) in the graphene lattice is investigated for several years. Thanks to a long-lasting collaboration with the Cold Plasma team of LAPLACE-Toulouse, which has the suitable experimental facility and a valuable expertise in plasma physics, we study the conditions for the direct synthesis of hetero-CNTs by means of arc plasma processes. More recently, we started investigating another route, i.e., the possibility to form N-substituted CNTS by means of high-temperature (carbothermal) post-synthesis treatment. Resulting materials are expected to exhibit modified electronic structure and superior electron emission properties.
