"Construction of protein supramolecules by 3D exchange of structural units between molecules"




Development in protein design has allowed scientists to create various protein supramolecules. However, methods to construct them are still limited, development of new techniques is required. 3D domain swapping has attracted attention as a mechanism for protein oligomerization. In domain swapping, a secondary structural region or a domain of one protein molecule is replaced with the corresponding region or domain of another protein molecule. I will present our recent results on how we can use domain swapping to construct unique heme protein supramolecules with ring, cage, and polymer structures.
