Spin manipulation and detection at the single-molecule scale

A new concept has been proposed to realize all-electrical control (i.e., “reading” and “writing” operations) of magnetism at the single-molecule level.

Silica, not that neutral…

The effect of an amorphous silica matrix on the structure and electronic properties of embedded silver nanoparticles is studied by DFT modelling. The silica acts as an "electron pump" and the nanoparticles become positively charged.

Mapping electrical properties in working nanodevices

Operando electron holography has been used to study local electric fields and charge distributions in nanocapacitors extracted directly from production lines

Preparative-scale synthesis of nonacene

After more than 70 years of attempts and controversies, nonacene, a molecule composed of 9 linearly fused benzene rings, has just been prepared at CEMES-CNRS by solid-phase thermal deprotection of two carbonyl precursors.

Time-resolved nanocathodoluminescence in a TEM

A collaboration between researchers from CEMES and LPS-Orsay allowed for the first time to perform a time-resolved cathodoluminescence experiment in a transmission electron microscope
