The Raimond Castaing prize for Christophe Gatel

At the 19th colloquium of the Société Française des Microscopies held earlier this month, Christophe Gatel was awarded the Raimond Castaing 2025 prize, which is awarded every 2 years for an outstanding contribution to microscopy.

Christophe Gatel is a lecturer at the University of Toulouse and head of the I3EM research group at CEMES, which specialises in interferometry, in situ studies and microscopy instrumentation.

Christophe was awarded this prize for the developments he has made in setting up the instrumentation needed for in situ/operando holography experiments in which the sample is subjected to electrical, magnetic or thermal excitation, and for the dynamic automation of the electron microscope. These developments pave the way for electron holography studies of different material properties in model and industrial systems, with unrivalled sensitivity.
