Towards economic degrowth?

Thursday May 16, 2024, 11am, CEMES (coffee served by 10.30am)

Conference room + Zoom

by Alain Alcouffe, Professor Emeritus in economics sciences at University of Toulouse 1 Capitole

Economic degrowth is ecologically desirable, even inevitable, but under what conditions can it become socially sustainable? How can we achieve full employment and economic stability without growth? What will happen to public spending and public debt? How can we organize production in a shrinking economy? And under what plausible socio-political conditions could such major changes take place? This conference will present recent discussions on the economics of degrowth.
