The scientific mind and the psychic apparatus

Thursday, December 14, 2023, 3pm, CEMES (coffee served at 2.30pm)

Conference room + Zoom

by Marc Thiberge, Physician, Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst

Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to man, symbolically bringing technology to the human race. In this way, we have become probably the most ingenious species of animal, albeit a very poor one at first.

Episteme is, broadly speaking, the body of regulated knowledge (conception of the world, sciences, philosophies, etc.) specific to a social group at a particular time.

Today, we need to think about technology and its impact, and consequently about the technology we want to use and the world we want to live in.

Our psyche, which differs from one individual to another, can, in the case of some humans, ‘manufacture’ science and technology and/or, in the case of others, question our responsibility and/or…

Marc Thiberge’s talk will focus on these multi-disciplinary concepts.
