Jacques Bonvoisin is a chemist / physical chemist, the first part of his career was devoted to the study of the magnetic properties of transition metal complexes in biomimetic chemistry and chemistry of the solid. In 1993, he joined the team of Professor Jean-Pierre Launay and devoted himself to the study of electron transfer in organic and inorganic systems. He is specialized in the synthesis and physicochemical characterization of transition metal complexes. He is heavily involved in understanding the processes of electron transfer and magnetic interactions in molecular systems in the theme ’Nanoscience and Molecular Electronics”. Since 2003, year of his HDR, he became interested in quantum computing and exploring different avenues to obtain a molecule capable of performing a logical operation.

Project :

His research program focuses on the design, synthesis and characterization of molecular structures useful in the field of Nanoscience. For a number of years now, he has been focusing on the design of molecules capable of performing a logical function or operation. The target molecule would consist of four ruthenium centers with different degrees of oxidation. The realization of this molecular logic gate requires optical control of the magnetic interaction between two spin carriers. This project draws on previous experience in synthesis and characterization, and on the skills developed within the Nanosciences group at CEMES in Toulouse in terms of modeling and theory, as well as near-field manipulation (STM, AFM). He is now involved in molecular self assembly on surface and also on molecular machine like molecular nano car.
